Lines of Code per Cup of Coffee

I'd like to propose a new Software Engineering metric: Lines of Code per Cup of Coffee* (LCCC).

According to announcement Google emailed me about the release of Chrome for the Mac, they observed the following:

  • 73,804 lines of new code
  • 8,760 cups of coffee

So our LCCC metric would then be:
LCCC: 8.43

I don't know about you, but if I was a manager at Google, I'd try to squeeze a little more productivity out of my employees. I'd think at least 10 lines of code per cup should be their immediate goal. Then they can work on building that number to 100 or 200, which is reasonable considering how long it takes to drink an averaged sized coffee.

I leave you with the following:
"A computer programmer is a device for turning coffee into bugs."
Bram Moolenaar

*Or some otherwise suitably caffeinated beverage.
